What is vertigo and what causes it? Vertigo is basically the sensation and feeling as if your surroundings are spinning, and it feels as if everything around you is moving.
So for example, let’s just say you’ve span around many times and after doing so, it feels as if the atmosphere and the room around you is spinning, kind of like you were really drunk or intoxicated.
Your vestibular system, which is also known as you’re inner ear, and conditions such as BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) can affect your balance. And what happens is within the inner ear, you have the semicircular canals which help to govern and control your equilibrium in relation to gravity and keeping you balanced.
Now the semicircular canals also work with crystals within the vestibular system and these crystals can go into the wrong places and within the semicircular canals. When they’re in the wrong places it can cause you to feel really unbalanced and unsteady, so it’s very important to ensure that these crystals are in the right places within the vestibular system.
Another condition that also affects balance and can cause vertigo is vestibular neuritis and there’s also meniere’s disease as well.
